Here the story behind this software.
This application has now been completely re-worked.
It now monitors 20 IP addresses, individually timed. It also has an email alerting component that is semi-intelligent.
Only 20 I hear you cry?....... Ok run multiple instances of the application, the only restriction is that each must be run from its own unique directory. I have a test PC running 4 instances with no problems.
When an IP address fails to respond to the ping, it logs it, monitors it, and after 5 failed pings, then sends an email. The application will then send no further emails untill the IP address responds, then the application emails to alert that the IP address is back up.
This is done on a per/ip monitoring basis. If one IP fails, then a second and third fails, independant emails are sent for each failure, but again only once.
The previous version, althought very compact with code, could not be expanded to deal with individual email alerts for each IP address and had a ' common to all ' alert sytem.
This version is only 92Kb in size, and has two xml files that it refers to.
Installation is a breeze, just copy the .exe to a unique directory and run it. First time the application is run it checks for its two partner files.If these are not present, it will create them, then exit. Your application is now ready to use!
